Tooh Fee San

Tooh Fee San

Mr Tooh Fee San has a great influence on the progress of Hwa Chong from a normal secondary school to one of the best schools in Singapore. In the 70s when Hwa Chong was still rebuilding, Mr Tooh came in as the new principal and guided Hwa Chong through the tough period where there were riots, a mass change of teachers and a drop in reputation.

Tan Kah Kee

Tan Kah Kee

Mr Tan Kah Kee was one of the most prominent figure in the overseas Chinese community of Southeast Asia in the 20th century. He was also the founder and most important person of Hwa Chong Institution. He was a rich but thrifty entrepreneur who spent his whole life contributing to the society. Hwa Chong is one of the many schools he founded. He is also the one who donated a big piece of land which is where Hwa Chong sits now. Without him, there would not be Hwa Chong today.

Lee Kong Chian

Lee Kong Chian

Lee Kong Chian was a very successful businessman and was one of the richest men in Southeast Asia in the 1950s and 1960s. Lee Kong Chian was the chairperson of the Hwa Chong Board Council from 1934 to 1957. The son-in-law of Tan Kah Kee donated lots of money in rebuilding Hwa Chong after the second world war and helped the school to progress in many ways.

Ong Teng Cheong

Ong Teng Cheong

One of the most outstanding alumnus of Hwa Chong, Mr Ong Teng Cheong was educated and graduated with distinctions in the Chinese High School, and later went on to be the 5th President of Singapore.He pushed for the development of the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRT), the largest construction project in Singapore's history and one of the most important transport tool in every Singaporean’s life.
